Hargreaves Land has granted a 25 year lease extension to a community led charitable organisation to help preserve an important mining monument in East Ayrshire.
The Barony A Frame Trust was set up in 1997 to save and restore the iconic A Frame at the former Barony Colliery in Auchinleck.
Hargreaves Land has granted the lease to enable the continuation of BAFT’s successful management of the site for the benefit of local communities, providing a fitting tribute to the area’s proud mining heritage.
Following the closure of the pit, the mine buildings were demolished leaving behind only the A Frame structure. The community rallied around to save the A Frame from demolition and create a meaningful and sustainable monument to the mining industry and mining communities.
Philip Rayson, senior planning & development manager at Hargreaves Land said: “We are delighted to be able to grant this lease extension to the BAFT. In East Ayrshire the A Frame is an important monument to the mining industry and the communities who worked in it. We are pleased to be able to support the Trust and the work they do for the local area”.
