How long have you worked at Hargreaves Land and can you describe your role within the firm?
I have been with the Hargreaves Group since 2015 and working within the Land team for two and a half years now. I have responsibility for all matters in relation to finance within the business.
What attracted you to a career in the property sector?
I like the fact that our product is typically tangible – people can broadly understand what you do when you talk about bricks and mortar, which isn’t always the case for accountants! I have a particular interest in the regeneration side of things and take pleasure in knowing that something we work on now will be around for decades, probably generations to come. In the same way the Victorians built much of the environment we are surrounded by now, I like to think in 100 years our developments will be held in similarly high regard!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
We work on a variety of projects and in order to know the numbers, it is essential to know the scheme too. I make the effort to understand what we are doing and gain as much knowledge about it from our development managers.
What projects are you currently working on?
Having responsibility for the numbers, it is always a case of trying to keep your finger on the pulse of everything that’s going on!
What has been the highlight of your career?
I have seen Hargreaves Land evolve into a thriving player in the property development sector over a relatively short period of time, and I am proud to have played by part in that growth so far.
Describe your dream holiday
Probably competing in a sailing championship at Lake Garda, the mecca of European sailing. Great sailing, even better weather and cold beer.
What book did you read last?
This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay. An insight into the life of junior doctors.
When you’re not at work what do you like to do?
Sailing and other outdoor activities, although this year they have been overtaken by spending time with my 9-month old and walking the dog!
