We are delighted to announce that plans have now been submitted for a 26-acre site at the former Maltby Colliery to become a long-term base for international auctioneer, Ritchie Bros.
In March, we successfully secured 12-month’s planning approval to enable temporary use of the site for plant and machinery auctions hosted by Ritchie Bros.
Lee Weatherall, Planning and Development Manager at Hargreaves Land said: “We have now submitted further plans to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council with the hope of securing full, permanent consent for a 27-year period, which if approved will deliver important economic benefits to the former colliery.
“We have engaged with key stakeholders to prepare the planning application as part of a longer term plan which would create jobs and bring investment to the local area.”
If successful, the 26-acre scheme would deliver approximately 30 full time jobs and would result in a £3.5m investment program at the former Colliery including the modification of an existing building to form an auction house, construction of a new check-in building and use of the existing workshop, along with associated works elsewhere on site, with the demolition of some redundant former colliery buildings.
Ritchie Bros. estimates that it will also spend approximately £750,000 per annum on goods and services, much of which would be invested in the local area.
The international auctioneer has been holding auctions since 1958, its UK auction operations were previously held on land at Donington Park.
If the plans are approved, the auction site could be up and running by Spring 2020.
