Meet the Team - Bruce Lindsay

Find out more about Bruce Lindsay, who joined Hargreaves Land as Development Director in Scotland to help deliver Blindwells, our flagship development scheme in East Lothian….

How long have you worked at Hargreaves Land and can you describe your role within the firm?

I joined Hargreaves Land in February 2021 as Development Director. I am based in the Glasgow office and my primary responsibility is for the delivery of Blindwells, our flagship residential and commercial development in East Lothian, working alongside my development and construction colleagues as well the design team and contractors.

What attracted you to a career in the property sector?

Many surveyors of my generation attended the Land Economics course at Paisley College – it was attractive as it had a reputation of giving all-round property training, leading to a diverse career.  My first development role was acquiring and delivering Shoprite Food Stores some 25 years ago. This gave me insight into the ‘client side’ role which I have always found to be rewarding and interesting.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The positive relationships with fellow professionals working on a series of common goals.

Can you tell us a bit more about Blindwells

Blindwells is a diverse project and as the redevelopment of a former open-cast coal mine into a sustainable town centre including significant numbers of affordable homes, it provides very positive impacts for the area. The first Blindwells residents have recently moved into their new homes and in the coming months we will see completion of the first affordable homes. We are also now marketing commercial development opportunities with the help of our commercial agents Ryden.

What has been the greatest achievement in your career?

I enjoy working on projects that have socially positive outcomes and Blindwells is a prime example. A further example would be the saving of the Anchor Mill in Paisley, a Grade ‘A’ listed structure returned to positive use in partnership with my Safeway colleagues and the Prince of Wales Heritage Trust.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that people may not know

Aside from being a father of two boys, a husband and a development surveyor, I am also a drummer – a very nice distraction from the day job! I play in an eleven piece soul, rhythm and blues band (thesouldoctors.com) and I am drummer/vocalist/songwriter with The Fabulous AceTones, a rock and blues trio.  We are currently getting back into rehearsals and planning for the months ahead to play ‘live’ as soon as possible.
