Ogilvie completes first round of new homes at Blindwells

The first properties by Scottish housebuilder Ogilvie Homes at a highly anticipated sustainable new town in East Lothian, have been completed with a number already sold.

From the initial release for sale, eight properties have been reserved, two of which are already occupied with a further 32 homes expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Stirling-based Ogilvie Homes is building a mix of 77 two, three and four bedroomed quality homes, including a number of affordable properties at Blindwells, the 390-acre former open cast mine which is being transformed by leading regeneration specialist, Hargreaves Land.

Ogilvie’s £17m scheme is one of several development phases currently underway at Blindwells, which is located 12 miles east of Edinburgh. More than 1,600 new homes are planned together with a new primary school and retail, commercial and healthcare facilities, as part of an ambitious plan to regenerate the former coalfield.

Sharon McPhee, sales and marketing manager at Ogilvie Homes, said: “Completion of our first new homes at Blindwells marks an exciting phase in our development plans and we look forward to welcoming more new residents in the weeks ahead.

“We are seeing a good deal of interest in all house types and a wide range of prospective buyers including people who live locally and want to move up the property ladder, as well as some who live within Edinburgh but are looking to move out for more space, and to be closer to the beautiful East Lothian coastline.”

Persimmon and Bellway are also currently onsite pushing ahead with their own developments, which have already seen around 30 and 50 homes completed respectively.

The news comes as Hargreaves Land has recently completed a deal to sell Hadden Homes a 0.4ha plot at the front of the scheme for the development of two new apartment blocks which will accommodate 23 private residences.

Bruce Lindsay, development director at Hargreaves Land, said: “With its rich heritage, surrounding open countryside and great commuting links, Blindwells is fast becoming a desirable destination for new and existing homeowners.

“We are delighted to be facilitating the development of quality new homes and look forward to seeing more of Ogilvie’s exciting plans come to fruition. It marks another new chapter in a terrific regeneration story that is creating a long-term sustainable community in East Lothian.”
