Wind farm Developer secure Sustainable Development Award

We are delighted to announce that the Developers of the North Kyle Windfarm have secured a major industry award for the project.

Brockwell Energy Limited has been awarded the Sustainable Development Award at The Scottish Green Energy Awards 2025, for its transformative approach to renewable energy and land regeneration at North Kyle.

Constructed across land partly owned by Hargreaves Land on the site of the former House of Water opencast mine, North Kyle Wind Farm now has the potential to deliver 220 MW of clean energy to 191,000 homes as the project reaches practical completion.

Using innovative low-carbon foundation techniques, the project reduced embodied carbon by 15%, while £6 million of regeneration funding restored 83 hectares of degraded land, creating new habitats and community spaces.

By combining renewable energy generation with environmental and social regeneration, North Kyle exemplifies how visionary projects can drive sustainable, long-term impact for communities and the planet.

The wind farm, which is located near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire forms, part of a development to regenerate one of Scotland’s largest surface coal mining sites, which formerly occupied the site. It is estimated that the windfarm will generate £65 million in Community Benefit funds over the project’s lifetime.

Andrew Johnson, Regional Director at Hargreaves Land, said: “We would like to congratulate Brockwell Energy for delivering the North Kyle Wind Farm and for securing this award, which is very much deserved.”

Richard Buckland, Head of Construction at Brockwell, added: “We are delighted to have been recognised at the Scottish Green Energy awards for the project’s work to regenerate the landscape. The award is testament to the vision and hard work of the entire project team.”
