Work has commenced on site at one of Hargreaves Land’s largest development projects following the agreement of a multimillion pound earthworks contract.
At Blindwells in East Lothian, Scotland, Hargreaves Land has granted a three year contract to civil engineering group I&H Brown for the initial phases of earthworks and surcharging works.
In 2017, Hargreaves Land secured planning consent for more than 1,600 new homes at Blindwells. Proposals for the 390-acre site include social housing, education facilities, a healthcare hub, local retail outlets and other services needed for a new community.
Scott Waite, head of project management at Hargreaves Land said: “This contract will enable us to release land for the first 300 homes at Blindwells and therefore represents a major milestone for the scheme. I&H Brown are highly regarded specialists and we are confident they will help us deliver our proposals.”
Hargreaves Land, the land and property division of Hargreaves Services plc, is tasked with bringing forward developments and unlocking value from the group’s 17,500-acre land bank.
The company’s UK-wide land portfolio includes over 50 sites ranging from former coal mines undergoing remediation, through to prime consented sites ready for development.
Iain Slater, development & estates director at Hargreaves Land, added: “Blindwells is a significant scheme for Hargreaves and the East Lothian community so we are very pleased to make this announcement today. This contract represents a major investment in our wider vision for Blindwells and an important step in delivering the first homes.”
