Hargreaves Land has commenced works at the former Maltby Colliery site in preparation for international auctioneers Ritchie Bros. who will be using it as a long-term base for plant and machinery auctions.
The landlord’s enabling works involve the demolition of redundant buildings, earthworks, creation of level display and storage areas, as well as lighting and fencing.
Hargreaves Land has appointed MHH Contracting Ltd as the main contractor and the works are expected to take approximately 10 months.
Ritchie Bros., which has been holding auctions since 1958, previously operated out of Donnington Park, but the firm has been holding auctions at the Maltby site since February 2019 under a temporary arrangement.
Planning consent was issued in April this year for the auctioneers to use the Maltby site as a new permanent base. It is anticipated that the auctions will create approximately 30 full time jobs and result in a multi-million investment program including modifying the former stores building into a state of the art auction house.
Ritchie Bros. works with many local service providers and suppliers to operate the Maltby auctions. In addition, customers from around the world attend the auctions and utilise the goods and services of airlines, car hires, rental cars, hotels, restaurants and more.
