St Ninians

St Ninians is a restored former surface mine near Dunfermline in Fife. Since taking ownership of the site in 2013, Hargreaves Land has undertaken restoration works and is now creating a development masterplan.

The site has been designated for leisure, tourism and recreational uses in the Local Development Plan and is ideally located for access to Junction 4 of the M90 motorway. Hargreaves Land is developing a vision for St Ninians to create a multi-use leisure and tourism destination in central Fife, making use of the Loch Fitty, Thornton Wood Loch (the void remaining post restoration) and the restored former mined land between the two water bodies.

The land to north of Loch Fitty will mainly be targeted for leisure and tourism uses, including a theme park type development with associated lodge and caravan holiday accommodation and water-sports activities making use of Thornton Wood Loch.

The land to the south and east of Loch Fitty is targeted for low density residential development benefiting from an attractive wooded loch side location, in the vicinity of a restored international standard trout fishing loch.

“Hargreaves have worked hard to deliver sustainable restoration solutions for several former surface mines in Fife & have worked positively with the Council & communities”
